When you Google that title, the results are about how the United States lost the world's leading title. We are losing respect as I'm typing this.

    Russia............. Gorbachev in August.

That was closely followed in September by the Queen of England.

There wasn't anyone recently in the U.S.

Somebody in Peru recently passed, but his or her name escapes me.

I am surprised to learn of the firing of Lisa LaFlemme from CTV, as well as our electoral representatives.

That was a big one for me. It felt like the end of an era. I had so much respect for the Queen, but I don't much care for the remaining royals.

As for the United States losing respect, isn't that just headline clickbait?

Not really. The Atlantic had a good write-up about this two years ago. When foreign countries look at us, it's an aesthetic-based judgement. We just don't LOOK the same to them. That, and certain countries used to fear or respect us. Now they pity us.

Kristie Alley recently passed away. I know she's mostly known for her acting skills, but she was also very much into Scientology and carried a lot of influence within the religion. The fact that she died of colon cancer, despite being a Scientologist, which is supposed to cure mankind of all its ills, could have a major effect on the group.

Yes, that one really hit me hard! I adored her.

Pope Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI passed away on December 31. He worked hard to bridge the gap between Islam and Christianity. He worked tirelessly for peace. His presence will be sorely missed.
