Do you see the future of console gaming?

I recently saw a tweet about PlayStation job listing, suggesting that PS6 is in development. There is no doubt that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft are cooking up new consoles with dedicated games. But with the way PC is having better values in the long run, what do you think new consoles can bring to the table?

I honestly think that both console and PC gaming systems have their target audience. I myself switched from Xbox to PC a couple of years ago, but I still see the potential in console gaming. There are a couple of reasons for this:
    1. Consoles are portable. You can take your Xbox anywhere. You can't really do that with a PC.
    2. Exclusive games. There are so many games on consoles that are not available for PC gamers.

There are obviously pros and cons, but I don't see console gaming going anywhere any time soon.

I'd say the biggest question now is whether PC can support VR. I guess with the proper hardware, PC can support anything. At the moment, consoles handle VR games better because their systems are better designed for such games. As long as there are consumers for VR, I don't think the consoles are going anywhere.

Hunter, why did you switch from Xbox to PC? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Microsoft allows users to play a few Xbox games on PC. That's the kind of compatibility we'd love to see from different platforms.

dustlight32, that's true. Maybe VR doesn't feel like a big selling point because none of my close friends are VR gamers. It costs too much, in my opinion.

I got an email about the launch of PlayStation VR2 a few days ago. Just like that, we already have the next generation of VR gaming. That probably means that the market is alive however small it is.

I agree that it's not a cheap investment; maybe on par with a dedicated desktop built to play heavy games. Investing in a PC also helps us with non-gaming purposes as well, so there are more benefits compared to simply buying a gaming console.
